Good Faith Estimate

Under the law, known as the No Surprises Act, health care providers must give patients who don't have insurance or who aren't using insurance an estimate of expected charges for medical and mental health services. This is called a “Good Faith Estimate.”

Your Rights

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency services, including psychotherapy.
  • You can ask any provider for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.
  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
  • Make sure to keep a copy of your Good Faith Estimate in a safe place.
